Job Description

An educational opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students in Hialeah, FL during the 25/26 school year. This contract position offers a 37.5-hour workweek dedicated to providing essential mobility and orientation services within a school setting.

Responsibilities include delivering specialized instruction and training in mobility techniques, orientation strategies, and the use of assistive technologies. The goal is to empower students with visual impairments to navigate confidently across school, home, and community environments. Managing a caseload and collaborating with educational teams to tailor interventions are key components of the role.

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution with a focus on Orientation and Mobility; Masters degree preferred
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), or eligibility and commitment to obtain certification within a designated timeframe
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired individuals strongly preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is an asset
