Job Description

In this rewarding contract opportunity, youll deliver essential services helping visually impaired students develop crucial skills for safe, independent travel within their school and community environments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or eligibility to obtain certification
  • Experience providing direct orientation and mobility training to school-age children and adolescents
  • Proficiency in assessing student needs and implementing individualized instruction plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and educational teams
  • An understanding of current best practices in orientation and mobility instruction
  • Familiarity with technology and adaptive tools for visually impaired students

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and group instruction in orientation and mobility techniques
  • Conduct assessments to determine student needs and goals
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans to foster independence in travel and navigation
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to integrate mobility goals into each students educational program
  • Document student progress and adapt instruction based on assessment outcomes
  • Offer recommendations for environmental modifications to ensure accessibility and safety for all students
