This contract position is ideal for education professionals passionate about making a tangible difference in students lives by fostering independence and safe navigation skills. The district leadership and coordinator are known for their supportive approach, creating a welcoming and positive work environment.
In this role, youll provide district-wide services, supporting students across multiple schools throughout the academic year, from August 24, 2026 to June 4, 2027. Youll have the opportunity to shape educational journeys and contribute to a culture of inclusivity.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification
- Experience working within school settings, ideally covering K-12
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with educators, families, and administrators
- Self-motivated, reliable, and flexible in adapting to changing assignments across multiple sites
- Dedication to promoting independence and confidence in students with visual impairments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide orientation and mobility training to students with visual impairments
- Assess student needs and develop individualized instructional plans
- Collaborate with teachers, other specialists, and families to support student progress
- Travel between school sites as needed to accommodate caseload demands
- Maintain thorough documentation and participate in IEP meetings as required
