A school-based Orientation and Mobility Specialist is needed for the 2026-2027 academic year in Glendale, AZ. This contract position offers a 35-hour workweek focused on supporting students with visual impairments to develop independent travel and orientation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct mobility assessments and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans.
- Teach safe and effective travel techniques to students with visual impairments.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility goals.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet evolving needs.
- Provide training and resources to school personnel related to orientation and mobility.
Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
- Experience working with children or young adults who have visual impairments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to design and implement customized mobility programs.
- Knowledge of current best practices in orientation and mobility instruction.
