Job Description

Make a meaningful impact supporting students across PK-12th grade as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a welcoming educational environment. In this full-time, onsite contract role, you will help students on one campus (spanning three schools) in developing fundamental skills for safe and independent travel and daily navigation.

Your week runs Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and Fridays are a breeze with an early finish at 1:30 PM. The caseload consists of 2535 students and may fluctuate during the school year. Youll enjoy focused time with each student, as well as compensation for all hours worked during the contracted period, including indirect/admin hours and team meetings.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current South Carolina Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential required
  • Experience working with students ages PreK-12 preferred
  • Strong skills in teaching white cane usage, trailing, and guiding techniques
  • Ability to foster sensory awareness, including auditory and tactile skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Organized, flexible, and passionate about student-centered services

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver O&M instruction both individually and in small groups to students with visual impairments
  • Teach practical travel skills such as white cane mobility and environmental navigation
  • Help students build confidence in identifying and using sensory input and landmarks
  • Collaborate with families, educators, and related service providers to ensure student success
  • Participate in team meetings and required administrative activities within the scope of contracted hours
