This contract opportunity focuses on providing essential training and guidance to students who need orientation and mobility support, ensuring they develop the skills and confidence to navigate varied settings safely and independently.

Job Highlights:

  • Serve one school site, supporting students with visual impairments
  • Shape student progress 2-3 days per week across the school year and into the next
  • Deliver personalized training in spatial awareness, sensory navigation techniques, and tools for students experiencing blindness or low vision
  • Onsite, interactive role focused on real-world skill-building and safety

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Orientation & Mobility for California is required
  • Experience working with students in educational settings, preferably with visually impaired youth
  • Familiarity with a range of sensory and mobility techniques and adaptive equipment
  • Compassionate communicator with the ability to build lasting trust and rapport with students, faculty, and families
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to tailor training to each students needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students individual abilities and create tailored orientation and mobility plans
  • Provide direct instruction in environmental navigation, cane techniques, travel safety, and sensory cues
  • Collaborate with school staff and families to maximize student independence and success
  • Maintain detailed progress records and participate in IEP meetings as appropriate
