Job Description

Make a meaningful difference for students along the beautiful Southeast Texas coast as a contract Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This part-time opportunity is ideal for dedicated professionals passionate about ensuring students have the skills and confidence to navigate their world successfully. Due to a longstanding need in the region and a limited number of specialists, your expertise will be greatly valued and have an immediate impact.

Start contributing from August 3, 2026, through May 28, 2027, for approximately 20 hours per week. Assignments may cover multiple schools, and youll work with a range of student ages; more caseload details will be shared after the districts upcoming planning meetings. This is a chance to collaborate closely with educational leadership and provide critical support where its needed most.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification is required
  • AVCREP certification or equivalent credential
  • Ability to complete Texas fingerprinting and background checks promptly
  • Experience supporting students with visual impairments in school settings preferred
  • Collaborative approach and flexibility to work across different campuses
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized orientation and mobility instruction to help students build independence
  • Partner with IEP teams to set and track student goals
  • Conduct functional vision and mobility assessments
  • Provide ongoing support to educational staff and families
  • Keep accurate documentation and comply with district and state guidelines
