This contract opportunity is perfect for a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) who enjoys working directly with students to nurture independence and confidence through expertly delivered orientation and mobility training.
This part-time position enables you to focus your expertise on one school, supporting students 2-3 days per week throughout the current and upcoming school years. Youll play a vital role in coaching students on spatial awareness, implementing sensory techniques in a variety of environments, and addressing mobility challenges stemming from blindness or low vision.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Orientation & Mobility Certification for California
- Demonstrated experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to individualize instruction based on sensory and accessibility needs
- Commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning space
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and implement orientation and mobility programs tailored to students unique abilities
- Teach safe and effective travel skills using canes and other assistive devices
- Train students on sensory techniques and spatial procedures to navigate diverse settings
- Consult with educators, families, and support staff to maximize student progress
- Maintain clear documentation of student goals, sessions, and achievements
