This position seeks an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students with visual impairments in a dedicated school setting in Concord, CA. The role is part-time, requiring onsite presence 2-3 days per week throughout the current and following school year. This opportunity focuses on fostering independence and spatial awareness for students who are blind or have low vision by implementing tailored sensory and mobility training techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments.
- Develop individualized strategies to improve spatial awareness and safe navigation in varied environments.
- Support students in building skills to enhance independence considering their unique sensory needs.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to integrate mobility goals into each students educational plan.
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Valid Orientation and Mobility Certification specific to California.
- Proven experience working with children who have blindness or low vision.
- Strong knowledge of sensory techniques and mobility strategies for visually impaired populations.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary school personnel.
Location: Concord, CA onsite engagement required.
