A specialized opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide essential support within an elementary school setting near Tinley Park, IL. This contract role focuses on conducting an evaluation and offering ongoing services to a 5th-grade student with documented hearing impairments and bilateral cochlear implants. The students needs require expertise to ensure safe navigation and full access to the school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive orientation and mobility evaluation for a student at the elementary level.
- Develop and implement strategies tailored to the student's unique hearing impairment and mobility needs.
- Provide one-on-one support, fostering safe and confident navigation within the school setting.
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to optimize student accessibility and integration.
- Maintain detailed documentation and progress reports.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
- Experience working with students who have hearing impairments and cochlear implants preferred.
- Ability to assess and address mobility challenges in school environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience managing elementary caseloads is an asset.
