An opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support a 5th-grade student with a hearing impairment and bilateral cochlear implants at an elementary school near Tinley Park, Illinois. This contract role involves conducting one evaluation and managing an elementary caseload, providing specialized support to ensure safe and confident navigation within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive orientation and mobility evaluation for a 5th-grade student.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the students access and mobility in the school setting.
- Work 1:1 with the student, tailoring interventions to accommodate hearing impairments and promote safety.
- Collaborate with school staff to address environmental challenges and facilitate inclusion.
- Document progress and communicate findings to the educational team.
Qualifications:
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) credential.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly with hearing impairments.
- Skilled in conducting mobility evaluations and developing individualized plans.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with educators and families.
- Ability to adapt strategies to meet diverse student needs within a school environment.
