Job Description

A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist role is available at a K-12 year-round school in Chicago, IL. This position is a permanent contract providing a rewarding opportunity to support students in developing essential travel and navigation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of students' orientation and mobility needs.
  • Develop and implement personalized instructional plans to enhance independent travel.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to integrate mobility strategies into educational programs.
  • Provide training and support to staff and caregivers on orientation and mobility techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with school policies.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Orientation and Mobility is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of O&M principles and techniques specific to working with children from kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within an educational team.
  • Experience in a school setting or working with children with visual impairments is preferred.

Location and Schedule:

  • Position is based in Chicago, IL.
  • Monday through Friday, full-time hours.
  • Year-round academic calendar.
