Step into an impactful position as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, providing critical support to students across a district-wide K-12 caseload near Chesapeake, VA. This contract opportunity begins August 24, 2026, and runs through June 4, 2027, with a full 37.5-hour work week supporting multiple schools in the area. Youll work closely with both staff and students to promote independence and safe navigation for students with visual impairments.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) Certification required
- Experience working with K-12 student populations is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of best practices in orientation and mobility instruction
- Comfort traveling between multiple school sites as needed
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, and deliver individualized orientation and mobility instruction to K-12 students across the district
- Collaborate with special education teams, teachers, and families to support student goals
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as necessary
- Serve as a resource within the schools on orientation and mobility concerns
- Participate in IEP meetings and offer expert input on student needs
- Work independently as part of a supportive network of professionals
