Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Prior work with children or young adults in educational or community settings
• Strong understanding of assessment and instructional techniques specific to orientation and mobility
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Comfortable providing training and support to both students and staff
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Creative approach to adapting strategies for diverse student needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments to determine student strengths and needs related to orientation and mobility
• Develop and deliver tailored instruction to help students improve independent travel skills, both indoors and outdoors
• Monitor student progress and adjust programming as needed to meet established goals
• Consult with teachers, caregivers, and school teams to foster environments conducive to student success
• Participate in IEP meetings and documentation processes, contributing essential expertise on orientation and mobility
• Provide education on the use of mobility aids, including canes and auditory/tactile maps
• Maintain detailed records and ongoing communication about student progress
