Step into a rewarding opportunity providing specialized instruction and support as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist working with K12 students in a school-based setting. This is a contract position, offering a flexible schedule with just a few hours required each month. Youll collaborate with dedicated educators to encourage independence and confidence among visually impaired students, helping them thrive throughout the school environment and in the wider community.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification required
- Experience or interest in working with K12 age groups
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop and implement effective individualized programs
- Passion for fostering growth and independence in students with visual impairments
Responsibilities:
- Assess students orientation and mobility abilities to design individualized instruction plans
- Provide targeted, hands-on mobility training within school and community environments
- Teach safe travel techniques, route planning, and use of assistive devices
- Maintain accurate records of progress, interventions, and recommendations
- Consult with teachers, staff, and families to ensure smooth integration of strategies across settings
- Adjust interventions based on ongoing assessments and student needs
