Job Description
Make a meaningful impact as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist supporting students from PK through 12th grade for an academic year beginning August 10, 2026, and ending May 21, 2027. This full-time contract role offers the opportunity to work onsite, weekdays from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (1:30 pm Fridays), on a single campus that houses three schools. Youll have the chance to partner with approximately 25-35 students, helping them develop essential mobility skills and greater independence.
The core responsibilities include:
- Instructing students in the use of white canes, trailing, and safe guiding techniques
- Teaching ways to develop sensory awareness, including auditory and tactile cues
- Creating and implementing individualized plans to help students identify and use landmarks for spatial orientation
- Collaborating with teachers, staff, and families to tailor mobility instruction to each students needs
- Documenting progress and adapting strategies to ensure ongoing improvement
- Participating in team meetings and administrative tasks during paid hours
What were looking for:
- SC certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS)
- Experience delivering direct instruction to school-aged students
- Knowledge of strategies for developing orientation and mobility skills with visually impaired students
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities
- Able to adapt teaching approaches to diverse student needs
- Capable of efficiently managing time and caseload across elementary to high school populations
- Ability to begin by August 10, 2026 and commit through May 21, 2027
- Willingness to undergo required background and fingerprinting processes
