Job Description

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent)
  • Experience providing orientation and mobility training within educational or pediatric environments
  • Proven ability to assess student needs and create individualized instruction plans
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with teachers, parents, and therapists
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different school settings and populations
  • Strong observational, documentation, and reporting skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine students current levels of orientation and mobility skills
  • Develop and implement personalized orientation and mobility instruction for students with visual impairments
  • Teach concepts and skills related to safe travel, including use of canes and adaptive devices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support students IEP goals and access to educational environments
  • Train staff and caregivers on strategies to reinforce mobility skills in various settings
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program planning as required
