Job Description

This opportunity is for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to provide specialized services supporting students with visual impairments in the Denver area. This contract position will serve multiple schools within the district, with assignments and caseloads varying based on student needs. Positions may be full-time or part-time, with 3-4 openings anticipated for the 2026-2027 school year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments.
  • Collaborate with school teams, families, and related service providers to support student independence and safety.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students functional vision and mobility skills.
  • Provide direct instruction in the use of assistive technology, cane travel, and environmental awareness.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in accordance with district and licensing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Active Colorado Department of Education certification with Special Service License and Orientation & Mobility Specialist endorsement.
  • Experience working with children and youth in educational settings, preferably 0-18 years old.
  • Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility techniques and assistive technology.
  • Ability to pass district-required background check and fingerprint screening.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Location: Denver metropolitan area (primarily onsite assignments within the district)
