Job Description

This opportunity seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide dedicated, one-on-one nursing care for a medically complex 12-year-old student in a school setting in Norfolk, VA. The role requires an LPN with strong clinical experience in managing central lines, TPN, G-tube care, and infection prevention to support the students daily health needs throughout the school day. This contract position starts immediately and extends through late May 2026, with the potential for renewal.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-on-one nursing care for a student with short bowel syndrome and complex medical needs
  • Monitor and maintain safety and hygiene of a central line, ensuring it remains dry and protected during school hours
  • Assist with activities of daily living and hygiene support as needed
  • Observe for signs of infection, blood clots, or other complications, and respond promptly
  • Collaborate with classroom nurse and support staff to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Comply with school district policies, including fingerprint clearance and onsite presence

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Virginia LPN license
  • Experience with central lines, TPN, G-tube care, and managing medically fragile pediatric patients
  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with the student, family, and educational team
  • Must be able to work onsite throughout the school day
