Job Description

This full-time, onsite position for a School-Based Sign Language Interpreter serves K-12 students and provides essential communication support within an educational setting in Trussville, AL. This contract role extends through the academic school year, offering a dynamic environment to foster student success and inclusivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff by interpreting American Sign Language (ASL) in classroom and school activities.
  • Collaborate closely with educational teams to ensure students access to instructional materials and participation.
  • Adapt interpreting strategies to meet diverse needs across various grade levels.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and mentorship programs to enhance interpreting skills and educational knowledge.
  • Comply with all state and federal laws relating to special education and communication access.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Alabama Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) License.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred.
  • Strong understanding of educational terminology and student learning environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to student advocacy.
