Job Description
A school district in Wichita, KS is seeking a skilled Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with students, educators, and families to enhance educational access and communication.
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing and identifying the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Providing direct support and specialized instruction to students
- Collaborating with classroom teachers and support staff to adapt curriculum and strategies
- Advising families on communication options and assistive technology
- Conducting evaluations related to hearing and language development
- Participating in staff training and professional development initiatives
Qualifications and experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or related credential
- Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in an educational setting
- Strong knowledge of auditory, visual, and communication strategies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices, hearing aids, and technology used to support students
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
