Job Description

Seeking a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist for a contract position in Washington, DC, within a school setting. This role focuses on supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing specialized instruction and resources to help them succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored for students with hearing impairments.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in auditory training, speech reading, and communication strategies.
  • Conduct assessments and monitor student progress regularly.
  • Advocate for the needs of deaf/hard of hearing students within the school community.
  • Train and support staff on best practices for working with hearing-impaired students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing or equivalent credential.
  • Experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Strong knowledge of assistive technologies and communication methods (e.g., sign language, FM systems).
  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary educational team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
