Job Description

A school district in Tacoma, WA is seeking a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position involves providing specialized services to enhance educational access and success for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to identify students hearing and communication needs
  • Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored for students with hearing loss
  • Collaborating with teachers, speech therapists, and other staff to adapt instructional methods and materials
  • Providing direct audiological and communication support to students, including sign language interpretation and speech therapy assistance
  • Training and supporting school personnel and families on best practices for working with deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting interventions as needed

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or similar role in educational settings
  • Knowledge of audiological assessment and communication methodologies, including American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Familiarity with IEP development and special education laws related to hearing impairments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and school teams
