Make a meaningful impact by supporting elementary students as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist. In this contract position, you will work with students in an elementary classroom setting, Monday through Friday, applying your expertise to foster communication and learning. Qualifications & Experience Sought:
- Certified Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or evidence of appropriate credentialing
- Previous work with elementary-aged children, ideally within a public school environment
- Solid knowledge of best practices in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Proficiency in sign language and various communication modalities
- Ability to craft effective, individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in an inclusive elementary classroom
- Modify and adapt curriculum to ensure access and comprehension
- Conduct assessments and contribute meaningfully to IEP processes and meetings
- Consult with general education teachers to support student success and accessibility
- Engage regularly with families and staff to communicate student progress and needs
- Employ a variety of communication techniques to engage and empower students
