Job Description

A unique opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in an educational setting in Sitka, AK. This contract position offers the chance to work closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing specialized services that enhance their learning experience and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify the communication and educational needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each students needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to promote effective communication strategies and accommodations.
  • Provide direct instruction in speech, language, and auditory skills.
  • Train staff and students in the use of assistive listening devices and other technologies.
  • Support inclusive classroom environments by adapting materials and teaching strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with school policies.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification or degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of auditory and visual communication methods, including sign language.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams and families.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
