Job Description

A contract position is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in Seattle, WA, to support the education and development of students with hearing impairments. This role requires expertise in communication strategies, audiology resources, and individualized education program (IEP) development to enhance learning outcomes for deaf and hard of hearing students within a school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs related to hearing loss and develop tailored support plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and audiologists to implement effective communication strategies.
  • Provide direct instruction and intervention services to students with hearing impairments.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust educational plans as necessary.
  • Assist in the use and maintenance of assistive listening devices and other hearing technologies.
  • Facilitate training and awareness programs for staff and peers regarding deafness and hearing loss.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or related credential.
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in educational settings.
  • Knowledge of audiological accommodations, communication methods such as sign language or auditory-verbal techniques, and assistive technology.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement IEPs and comply with relevant educational laws and policies.
