Job Description

A school district in Saint Louis, MO is seeking a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students with hearing impairments through tailored educational strategies and comprehensive support services. This contract position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an academic setting by enhancing communication access and promoting inclusive learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and assess the individual needs of deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers, families, and related service providers
  • Provide direct instruction and support in auditory, speech, and language skills
  • Train and assist school staff in communication strategies and accommodations
  • Utilize assistive listening devices and technology to facilitate student learning
  • Advocate for students academic and social inclusion within the school community
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and professional development related to deaf education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Experience working in educational settings with deaf or hard of hearing students
  • Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication methods
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and service providers
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and hearing-related accommodations
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
