This role is ideal for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist passionate about supporting students with hearing impairments in an educational setting. The position is based in Overland Park, KS, offering the opportunity to work within a school environment on a contract basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized support and services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Use assistive listening devices and other resources to enhance learning experiences.
- Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse needs.
- Facilitate communication between students and their peers or teachers through sign language or other communication methods.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in deaf education.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent.
- Experience working with school-aged children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Strong knowledge of sign language and other communication techniques.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
