Empower students with hearing differences to thrive academically and socially in this rewarding contract role supporting individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Work in a collaborative educational environment near Olathe, KS, focusing on promoting access, inclusion, and success for all students.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist (or eligible)
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, preferably in an educational setting
- Strong knowledge of auditory, communication, and assistive technology needs
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and families
- American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and educational support to students with hearing impairments
- Adapt curriculum materials and teaching techniques to accommodate varying levels of hearing loss
- Consult with teachers and related service providers to optimize student participation and access
- Assess students needs and progress, contributing to IEPs and related meetings
- Offer training and guidance to school staff about hearing loss, accommodations, and communication strategies
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment where students can achieve their fullest potential
