This position seeks a qualified Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in an educational setting located in Olathe, KS. The role involves providing specialized services to students with hearing impairments, ensuring they receive appropriate educational accommodations and support to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing and developing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to their requirements
- Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to implement effective communication strategies and accommodations
- Providing direct instruction and support to enhance students language, listening, and auditory skills
- Teaching the use of assistive listening devices and other adaptive technologies
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies as necessary to maximize educational outcomes
- Offering training and resources to staff and families regarding deafness, hearing impairments, and inclusive practices
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or related field
- Experience working in K-12 educational environments with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Strong knowledge of auditory-verbal techniques, sign language, and communication methodologies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
