Job Description

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid state certification or credential as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist
  • Background supporting children or young adults with hearing loss in educational settings
  • Strong understanding of appropriate accommodations, assistive technology, and access tools
  • Familiarity with IEP development and case management
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and related service providers
  • Experience delivering direct services such as auditory training, speechreading, or sign language support is highly valued

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, adapting instruction and materials to meet individual needs
  • Assess and monitor student progress, contributing to IEP meetings and documentation
  • Train and support school staff regarding hearing loss, classroom strategies, and technology use
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary teamincluding teachers, speech-language pathologists, and school administratorsto ensure students academic and social success
  • Engage families and caregivers to help reinforce access and communication strategies outside the classroom
  • Advocate for appropriate resources, technology, and accommodations that facilitate student involvement in the school community
