A contract opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in a school setting located in Maple Valley, WA. This role focuses on delivering specialized educational services tailored to the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping them access the curriculum and thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Provide direct instruction and support in communication skills, including sign language and auditory training
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create an inclusive learning environment
- Monitor student progress and adjust strategies to optimize learning outcomes
- Facilitate the use of assistive technology and other resources to support student needs
- Advocate for students accessibility and accommodation requirements within the school setting
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or related credential
- Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in an educational environment
- Strong knowledge of hearing loss impact on language acquisition and learning
- Proficiency in sign language and other communication methods preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
