Job Description
A school in Manhattan, KS is seeking a skilled Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position offers the opportunity to work in an educational setting focused on providing high-quality services tailored to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments
- Provide direct instruction and support to students using specialized communication techniques
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Conduct assessments related to hearing and communication needs
- Monitor student progress and adjust strategies as needed
- Serve as a resource for staff regarding deaf/hard of hearing education best practices
Qualifications:
- Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in a school setting
- Knowledge of communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-oral approaches, or other techniques suited for this population
- Ability to create and modify IEPs in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Relevant certification or licensure preferred
