A school district in Macomb, MI is seeking a skilled Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist for a contract position. This role involves providing specialized support and tailored educational services to students with hearing impairments, enabling them to thrive academically and socially within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure effective communication and accessibility.
- Provide direct instructional support using appropriate communication methods such as sign language, auditory training, or assistive technology.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility and needs.
- Train and support school personnel on best practices for inclusion and accommodations.
- Advocate for students' rights and needs within the school system.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent.
- Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in an educational setting.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant communication methods.
- Strong understanding of audiological equipment and assistive technologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to develop customized instructional plans and interventions.
- Commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in schools.
