Job Description

A school district in Macomb, MI is seeking a skilled Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist for a contract position. This role involves providing specialized support and tailored educational services to students with hearing impairments, enabling them to thrive academically and socially within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure effective communication and accessibility.
  • Provide direct instructional support using appropriate communication methods such as sign language, auditory training, or assistive technology.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility and needs.
  • Train and support school personnel on best practices for inclusion and accommodations.
  • Advocate for students' rights and needs within the school system.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent.
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant communication methods.
  • Strong understanding of audiological equipment and assistive technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to develop customized instructional plans and interventions.
