Job Description

A contracted position is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a school setting located in Lenexa, KS. This role focuses on supporting students with hearing impairments to enhance their educational experience and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and address the individual needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Develop and implement tailored educational plans in collaboration with teachers and staff.
  • Provide direct instructional support and communication access using appropriate technology and strategies.
  • Train and assist educators on best practices for inclusion and support of students with hearing challenges.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions to ensure academic and social growth.
  • Collaborate with families, audiologists, and speech therapists to ensure comprehensive support.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure relevant to Deaf / Hard of Hearing educational services.
  • Experience working with school-aged children who have hearing impairments.
  • Strong knowledge of communication modalities such as sign language, auditory-oral methods, and assistive technologies.
  • Ability to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) and conduct assessments.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff.
