Job Description
A school is seeking a specialized educator to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in Kansas City, KS. This contract role involves working directly with students to enhance their communication, learning, and social skills through tailored instructional strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and address the educational needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive support
- Use assistive technologies and communication methods appropriate to each student
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methodologies as needed
- Provide training and support to school staff on effective strategies for working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
Qualifications:
- Relevant certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher of the Deaf
- Experience working in K-12 educational settings with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Strong knowledge of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL) or other appropriate modalities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams and families
- Commitment to promoting inclusive and supportive learning environments
