Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent for school settings
- Comprehensive understanding of auditory disabilities and experience with individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Proficiency in sign language and a variety of communication modalities preferred
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices and accessible classroom technology
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, educators, and families
- Previous experience in educational settings or with school-aged children is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Assess students communication and hearing needs within the academic environment
- Develop and implement tailored strategies, modifications, and IEP goals
- Work directly with students to provide specialized instruction and support
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to foster inclusive practices
- Train faculty and caregivers in communication techniques and use of assistive technology
- Monitor and report on student progress, making informed adjustments as needed
- Advocate for students access and success across curricular and extracurricular activities
