An educational position is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a school setting located in Kansas City, KS. This contract role is ideal for professionals with expertise in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping them access curriculum and achieve academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instructional support and accommodations to students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate appropriate communication strategies
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students' auditory and speech needs
- Utilize assistive technology and resources to enhance learning experiences
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for support
- Support inclusion efforts and promote an accessible learning environment
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in Deaf education or related specialized training
- Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in an educational setting
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods used with this population
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with educators, families, and support staff
- Ability to design and implement individualized instructional plans aligned with students' hearing needs
