A specialized opportunity is available for a professional skilled in supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within a school environment. This contract role is based in Juneau, Alaska, and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student learning and communication development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support tailored to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Facilitate communication access through the use of assistive technology and hearing devices
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
- Advocate for students needs within the school community and with families
- Deliver training or resources to staff to enhance understanding of Deaf and Hard of Hearing challenges
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in educational settings
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods used in Deaf education
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices and technology
- Strong understanding of legal requirements and best practices related to special education
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
- Relevant certification or licensure as required for Deaf and Hard of Hearing specialists
