Job Description

A specialized opportunity is available for a professional skilled in supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within a school environment. This contract role is based in Juneau, Alaska, and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student learning and communication development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and support tailored to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Facilitate communication access through the use of assistive technology and hearing devices
  • Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
  • Advocate for students needs within the school community and with families
  • Deliver training or resources to staff to enhance understanding of Deaf and Hard of Hearing challenges

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in educational settings
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods used in Deaf education
  • Familiarity with assistive listening devices and technology
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements and best practices related to special education
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
  • Relevant certification or licensure as required for Deaf and Hard of Hearing specialists
