A specialized opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in an educational setting. This contract role based in Hoquiam, WA, requires expertise in working with deaf and hard of hearing students to foster their academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional support and intervention for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other educational professionals to ensure effective communication and inclusion.
- Utilize assistive technology and communication strategies such as American Sign Language (ASL) or cued speech.
- Provide advocacy and guidance to students and their families regarding educational resources and support services.
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional methods as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification or degree in deaf education, special education, or related field.
- Proven experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students within a school environment.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
- Strong communication skills including proficiency in ASL or other signed languages preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
