Job Description

A specialized opportunity is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist within a school setting in Helena, MT. This contract position is designed for professionals with expertise in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping to create an inclusive and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and support the communication and educational needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Implement specialized instructional strategies and assistive technology tailored to individual student needs
  • Provide direct instruction and classroom support to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding best practices in deaf education and accessibility
  • Monitor and report on student progress and adapt strategies as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist, Teacher of the Deaf, or related credential
  • Experience working in K-12 educational settings with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Strong knowledge of communication modes such as American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-verbal techniques, and other relevant methodologies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
