Job Description

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid state certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist
  • Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in educational settings preferred
  • Strong understanding of assistive communication technology, accommodations, and IEP processes
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work flexibly with multidisciplinary school teams, students, and families
  • American Sign Language proficiency is highly valued

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students communication and educational needs, contributing to the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments, both in and out of the classroom setting
  • Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to ensure appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations are in place
  • Advocate for necessary resources and services within the school environment
  • Educate faculty and staff on strategies for accessible communication and effective classroom modifications
  • Engage and support families to enhance student outcomes and build strong home-school partnerships
