Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid state certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in educational settings preferred
- Strong understanding of assistive communication technology, accommodations, and IEP processes
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
- Ability to work flexibly with multidisciplinary school teams, students, and families
- American Sign Language proficiency is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students communication and educational needs, contributing to the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments, both in and out of the classroom setting
- Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to ensure appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations are in place
- Advocate for necessary resources and services within the school environment
- Educate faculty and staff on strategies for accessible communication and effective classroom modifications
- Engage and support families to enhance student outcomes and build strong home-school partnerships
