Qualifications and Background:

  • Degree and certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education or a related field
  • Valid state licensure/certification for teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience working with children and adolescents who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in school settings preferred
  • Strong understanding of hearing assistive technology, communication modalities (including American Sign Language), and best practices in inclusive education
  • Ability to modify curriculum and assessments to support various communication and learning needs
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills for partnering with staff, families, and support teams

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and support to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, adapting teaching strategies to individual learning styles
  • Facilitate the use of assistive listening devices and support accessible classroom environments
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Provide consultation and training to teachers and staff on effective inclusion techniques and accommodations
  • Serve as a resource for families, offering guidance on educational access and advocacy
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation
