A school is seeking a qualified Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to provide expert support and tailored educational services for students with hearing impairments. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other educational professionals to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies
- Provide direct support and specialized instruction to students to enhance language development, auditory skills, and social-emotional growth
- Conduct assessments to monitor progress and adjust interventions accordingly
- Advocate for the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students and facilitate communication between families and school staff
- Participate in staff training and professional development to promote awareness and understanding of hearing disabilities
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent credentials
- Experience working in a school setting with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Knowledge of assistive listening devices, communication methods (e.g., ASL, Cued Speech), and instructional strategies tailored to hearing-impaired students
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to develop and manage IEPs effectively
