Seeking a skilled professional to fill a contract position as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist in a school setting located in Fairbanks, AK. This role focuses on providing specialized support and services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring their educational needs are met and facilitating their academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and identify the educational needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each students communication and learning requirements
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to create inclusive learning environments
  • Provide direct instruction and support using appropriate communication methods, including sign language
  • Monitor student progress and adjust strategies to optimize learning outcomes
  • Advocate for student needs within the school community and connect families with relevant resources

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist, Teacher of the Deaf, or equivalent credentials
  • Expertise in educational strategies for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or similar communication skills preferred
  • Experience working in school environments with children and adolescents
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with educators and families
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation for IEP compliance
