Job Description

A rewarding opportunity is available for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in an educational setting in Durham, CT. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Utilize assistive listening devices, communication strategies, and technology to facilitate effective learning.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed to meet educational goals.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in speech reading, auditory training, and language development.
  • Advocate for students' needs within the school community and promote awareness of hearing loss-related accommodations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or equivalent specialized training.
  • Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of communication methods including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-oral approaches, and other relevant techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
