Seeking a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist for a school-based contract position located in Davis, CA. This role is ideal for a qualified professional with expertise in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they receive tailored educational services to meet their unique communication and learning needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting assessments to determine students' auditory and communication needs
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for deaf or hard of hearing students
- Collaborating with teachers, speech therapists, and families to provide integrated support
- Providing direct instruction and communication facilitation, including sign language support as needed
- Monitoring student progress and adapting strategies to optimize educational outcomes
- Offering training and guidance to staff on best practices for working with deaf or hard of hearing students
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and maintaining thorough documentation
Qualifications:
- Professional certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or related credential
- Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children in educational settings
- Strong knowledge of hearing impairments, assistive technology, and communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL)
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with students, families, and school personnel
- Ability to create inclusive learning environments that address diverse student needs
