Job Description

A contract position is available for a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students in a school setting located in Chillicothe, OH. This role focuses on providing specialized educational support and resources to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, promoting their academic and social development within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure effective communication and support strategies are in place.
  • Provide direct instructional services, including speechreading, auditory training, and sign language support.
  • Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
  • Facilitate communication access by working with technology resources such as hearing aids, FM systems, and captioning services.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of Deaf culture within the school community.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of communication methods including American Sign Language (ASL) and auditory-verbal techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including speech therapists and counselors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
