Job Description

A school district in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is seeking a skilled Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students with hearing impairments. This contract position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' educational experiences by providing specialized services tailored to their unique communication and learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students auditory and communication needs
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate with teachers, speech therapists, and other educational staff to support students academic progress
  • Provide direct instruction in speech, language, listening, and social skills
  • Train staff and families in strategies to support hearing-impaired students
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as necessary
  • Assist with hearing aid management and troubleshooting within the school environment

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or related credential
  • Experience working with K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and communication methods used by the deaf community
  • Strong understanding of state and federal education laws related to special education services
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills
  • Ability to adapt instructional techniques to meet diverse learning needs
