Job Description

A specialized opportunity is available for a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist to support students' educational needs in a school setting located in Bixby, OK. This contract position focuses on delivering tailored instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, helping them achieve their academic goals and enhance communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Provide direct instruction using a variety of communication methods, including sign language, speech therapy techniques, and assistive technologies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and families to ensure coordinated support for student success.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust teaching strategies to meet evolving needs.
  • Train and support staff on strategies to effectively engage and assist students with hearing impairments.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with educational standards and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or a related credential.
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students in a K-12 school environment.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods appropriate for hearing-impaired students.
  • Strong knowledge of assistive hearing devices and technology.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to effectively work with educators, families, and students.
  • Ability to adapt instructional techniques to diverse learning styles and abilities.
