Job Description
Empower students to reach their fullest potential as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist. This contract position supports a welcoming school environment in the Billings, MT area, focusing on tailored guidance and advocacy to ensure students with hearing loss excel academically and socially.
Key Qualifications:
- Hold state certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or equivalent endorsement
- Experience designing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with varying degrees of hearing loss
- Strong knowledge of assistive listening devices, communication methods (e.g., American Sign Language, cued speech), and inclusive educational practices
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop student-centered strategies
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Previous work in school settings, preferably K-12, is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and observations to evaluate student needs and make instructional recommendations
- Develop and monitor IEPs, ensuring accommodations and modifications are appropriately provided
- Provide direct and consultative services to students, teachers, and staff to facilitate learning and participation
- Offer support and training for staff on best practices and use of assistive technology
- Engage with families, empowering them with resources and strategies to reinforce student success at home
- Advocate for an inclusive and accessible environment that nurtures both academic growth and confidence
