Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification or licensure as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist
  • Previous experience working in K-12 school settings is highly valued
  • Strong knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and relevant assessments
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, speech-language pathologists, and family members
  • Passion for fostering an inclusive, accessible, and supportive classroom atmosphere

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction, consultation, and support services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans and accommodations
  • Adapt curriculum materials and classroom communication methods for diverse student needs
  • Conduct assessments to identify students strengths, needs, and progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings and advocate for students rights and accommodations
  • Partner with educators and staff to build awareness and understanding of Deaf culture and communication strategies
